Canonical Definition

A claim handler (also known as a claims executive or claims technician) is the individual employed by or on behalf of an insurer who is assigned responsibility for managing a specific claim from initial notification through investigation, assessment, negotiation, and final settlement or denial. The claim handler is the primary point of contact for the claimant and any appointed representatives, and is accountable for ensuring the claim is handled fairly, promptly, and in accordance with the policy terms and applicable regulatory conduct requirements.
